How to Register to Vote in Hartford
Four official paths. Pick the one that fits your situation.
Unofficial guide. This site helps you understand the process but does not register you to vote. Official registration happens only through Connecticut's official systems.
Register by Mail
Good if you don't have a CT driver's license or ID- 1Download and print the Connecticut Mail-In Voter Registration Form (or pick one up at the Registrar of Voters office).
- 2Fill it out completely and sign it — an unsigned form cannot be processed.
- 3Include proof of identity if you do not have a CT driver's license number or Social Security number (e.g., a copy of a current photo ID, utility bill, or bank statement showing your name and Hartford address).
- 4Mail it to the Hartford Registrar of Voters.

Register at the DMV
When you're already doing a license or ID transaction- 1Visit any Connecticut DMV branch for a license, permit, or non-driver ID transaction.
- 2You'll be offered the chance to register to vote during your visit.
- 3The DMV transmits your registration to the appropriate Registrar of Voters.
Election Day Registration
Missed the deadline? Connecticut offers Election Day Registration (EDR) at designated locations in each town. You can register and vote on the same day — but you must bring the right documents.
Bring proof of identity AND proof of residence:
- • Proof of identity: a valid photo ID, or a non-photo ID with your name and address (e.g., utility bill, bank statement, paycheck).
- • Proof of residence: a document showing your name and current Hartford address (utility bill, lease, bank statement, etc.).
EDR locations and hours can differ from your usual polling place. Confirm details with the Hartford Registrar of Voters before Election Day.
